Well, we made it from Jeremie to PaP. seems like some people changed clocks, but not everyone did! the airplane was over 2 hours late arriving in Jeremie for the turn around. We all traveled to DuFondAcaque for church yesterday, and spent the afternoon saying goodbye to friends. The evening found us trying to pack our bags. We will hang out today, and tomorrow Tom Vincas (UMCOR) is to take us on tours of projects. All of us will be within short reach of our homes Wednesday midnight.

wow, the days are flying now. The woman and baby at Bernard are getting better. We worked on Friday and Saturday. The mobile clinic was held both days and very busy. The ride alone tires us, but we feel good about the progress at the site. Today, we will be traveling to DuFondAcaque for morning worship. We cleaned the balcony of remaining clothes last evening. There are 20 tents on the road passing the bus stop, so we will drop off a bag of items for each one. I have 4 or 5 buckets we will leave them. Pastor does not like to shop, so if we can talk him into picking up rice, we will bag rice for each of the tents also. It is sad to know this is our last day in Jeremie. Monday morning we will leave for PAP. We are to have a tour of city Monday, and Tuesday Tom will be taking us to view UMCOR projects in PAP
Thanks to all who have kept up with us, God has given us a wonderful trip!

Why are we here? Have we worked hard enough? Should we just Western Union the money down? All questions we have asked at different times. Today God answered them for us. Today Pastor Ephesian opened the mobile clinic at Benard with a prayer. As the commotion began to grow we saw a patient being brought to the site on a stretcher. She was a young woman with a 1 month old baby, severely ill with possible childbirth fever. It was determined later that she had pneumonia on top of the childbirth problems. The baby has not been fed since birth, except for water. The team was able to start the baby on formula using a syringe. We were reminded of the saying : God, open my eyes so I may see, open my ears so I may hear… Thank you God for allowing us to do your work.

We dropped off Velma, Carla, Bob and Serge at Chiraque for a mobile medical clinic. They had so many patients they ran out of medicine. The rest of the team continued on 45 minutes to Benard. The Pastor held a short meeting with the parishioners to encourage them to take ownership of the project because we are only there short term. We felt this was a positive step in reinforcing the fact that we need to work in partnership with the Haitian people, not do it all for them. 95% of the Church footers are now in place and they look great. We made a stop this morning at the local Lowes store to pick up a new commode for the Church and miraculously it made it all the way to the site without getting broken. All in all we had a great time. Na we anko.

Weather report here — hot, with a nice southernly breeze that rustles the trees, and an occasional cloud. We stayed at guesthouse, packed bags for Chiraque, DuFondAcaque, and Bernard. The porch is beginning to look presentable here. We purchased the remainder of groceries. Bagged beans. We all walked to Alexander’s house. He found a young mother and baby a month or so old, wandering the streets, so he took them in. He is teaching computer to the older kids. This evening, we cut out 5 pr shorts and finished them. We are anticipating dropping the medical team off in Chiraque, then proceeding to Bernard. All 8 of us, Serge (interpreter), and Levec (sewing machine) and Christnel will be in the pick-up truck tomorrow.

what a fun ride to Bernard! Leroy kept asking Are we there yet? we worked a little while, we took the sewing machine. Levec went with us to sew. The people in the villaage were so excited to see what the end product was going to be. Right after lunch, it poured rain, so all of us crowded into the little church. I found two domino games and the fun began! When the rain stopped, we loaded up to head back down the mountain. I think the song “slip sliding away” describes the ride home. Tuesday we will stay at the house, sewing, packing duffles for Chiraque, Du Fond Acaque, and Bernard.

Sunday update – 400 in c hurch service this morning with 300 taking communion. What a wonderful site. Amamzing how the men can wear long sleeve shirts and some suit coats when it is in the hi 80′s, low 90′s. Some of you will recognize Murial, our blind girl that we have been following since she was pregnant. Baby is now 22 months and her daughter is 5. I tried to give her son one of the teddy bears but he screamed, really afraid of it but as you can see his sister latched on really quickly. To the orphanage in the afternoon and the Good Samaritan Home. Funny to see a turkey running around the compound at the Home. More tomorrow.

Wow, the day has passed quickly. pastor and Debi went to airport to pickup Mike, Gayle, Leroy, and Velma. We all chatted and rested til lunch. After lunch, the sewing project began. Janet used the treadle, Velma on the electric, the guys pulling elastic, Gayle folding hems, and Debi running between the two. Bob and Leroy cut out shorts, I think Mikey said he took supervisors job, and observed. The guys packed 100 rice bags. to go to Chiraque and BonBon. The young women from the team in SC helped us to pick clothes for the girls at the orphanage. When the bags come on Sunday, we will have much packing to do, as the orphanage clothes will be finished, clothes for the Medical clinics at chiraque and BonBon. We all had a very nice day, team 2, of course, are very tired this evening.

The days are flying by. Team 2 will be departing Friday at 6 am. keep them in your prayers. David will not be joining us, as his mother is near death, and he needs to be in Texas. Keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. We will continue to work with, play with, and worship with our Haitian friends. The foundation will begin tomorrow. The village is so remote that transportation of the materials is very expensive. the last part of the drive(!) is actually a donkey path. oh well, all in a day.

Pat, Jackie, watch out. We had our choir practice this evening and even got to practice with a keyboard. Sunday we will be singing Santuary and Holy Ground in English and then watch out, “PaPa m’adore ou” in Creole.
Went downtown shopping and for those that know how to sew you would be so jealous. We bought over 50 yards of just beautiful material to give to the ladies in the village, along with a treadel sewing machine so they can make dresses.
For those at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, IN, thank all of you for your support for my trip. Thank you all staff at Chapin for picking up all the extra work while I am gone. I think of you often. Having a lot of trouble getting through the song “Holy Ground”, I start to cry every time because I see Volker and Paul all around me.
Love to all and miss you.
