The team delivered several hundred girl’s dresses, boy’s shorts and book bags donated by people in the United States as well as pillow case dresses made from donated hospital pillow cases and decorated by the kids at several schools in Manhattan.
The team purchased a new treadle sewing machine for the ladies in the village. Madame Timote, the village health agent is an accomplished seamstress. Between her and Charles Leveque, the tailor we hired from Jeremie made 69 new dresses and 42 pairs of shorts for the kids, a dress for Debi, a dress for Gina and a nice dress shirt for David.
We left the sewing machine and a supply of fabric for the village ladies to use making clothes for their children.

The Hearts for Haiti team all autographed a copy of Bib La and presented it to the church steward at Fond Acaque.
Kelli Ehrhardt brought three stained glass crosses. The team gave one to the church steward at Fond Acaque, one to John Wesley High School and one to Pastor Dorcely.

At the end of the day, the end of the trip we had gone from this ….
to this ….
Fed 60 people per day for three weeks…
delivered several hundred dresses, tee shirts, and tennis shoes.
and conducted for mobile medical clinics, delivered several thousand dollar’s worth of pharmaceuticals, and taught sewing classes which produced 69 girl’s dresses and 42 pairs of boy’s shorts.
All in all a good trip.

A GOOD DAY! The carpenter had most of the rafters up when we arrived and when we left after lunch he was ready to put on the tin roof. I did not see it but am confident that by now the roof is on and the building is ready to use. We made a deal with the church steward that members of the congregation would build steps to each of the four doors to the church and build block walls for the twalet.
Harry, Ted, Jason and Gina went back to Port au Prince for a tour before leaving on Saturday. Their adventure was a little more than expected. I thought arrangements had been made for them to fly the empty MAF charter to Port au Prince. The only problem was that the pilot had not gotten the message and was planning to fly to Jacmel to pick up another team. They ended up flying to Jacmel and took a walking tour of Jacmel. The pilot flew back and took them back to Port au Prince where they completed their tour of the earthquake destruction area.

Another slow day. We blocked in the chancel area, backfilled it with gravel and were ready to pour concrete when the pastor arrived and wanted to move it three feet away from the back wall so the communion rail would go around four sides. So…… we moved the gravel, reset the block and poured the concrete. The carpenter arrived but was slow as molasses.

Uneventful day at the worksite. We worked a little and sat a lot so we knocked off early and most of the team went to the beach. David stayed at the guesthouse and did plumbing repairs.

We had a small amount of excitement on the way to work. About half way to the site the local villagers blockaded the road with large concrete culvert pipe. We referred it to our legal counsel (Ted) and our chief negotiator (Cassy). It seems that the government/road contractor was supposed to pay the village for several houses and gardens that were destroyed by the road construction. They had not been paid and were demanding some satisfaction. Of course traffic was backed up behind us and too narrow to turn around and the blockade was in front of us. After a 45 minute delay with the assurance that “the company man” was on the way, they rolled the pipe off the road and we continued on our way.
A very good day at the work site. We poured almost all of the floor and all the materials to complete the job have now been delivered. The engineer assures us trhat we will begin the roof on Wednesday and if that is the case, we will see the roof on the building before we return home. Praise the Lord the plan is coming together!

We had a good day at the worksite; poured the cap block for the walls and tied steel for the floor. Madame Timote has made one large garbage bag full of dresses (69) and shorts (40) for the village children. She designed and made a “Timote Original” for Debi. Picture to follow.

We are looking forward to a quiet day at the house. We have decided to go to church and then stay at the guesthouse because of the elections today. Everything seems to be quiet with only a few candidates riding around in the back of pickup trucks broadcasting with bull horns. The UN and OAS presence is obvious with several low level fly bys from the UN helicopters. Former President Aristide has made no statement concerning the election so it is any body’s guess as to who will win.
